The Palace of Independence, Belarus
«Palace of Independence» is the residence of the President of the Republic of Belarus. It is intended for formal events: award ceremonies, press conferences, meetings of foreign delegations. The Palace is the architectural symbol of the Republic's independence and autonomy. It is decorated with wall carvings of the most significant places and buildings of Belorussia.
The Palace of Independence is a big three-storey building with total area of 50 000 sqm, with a lot of rooms and halls. It was built within 2,5 years. Modernist architecture and classical interiors make the building magnificent, luxurious and gorgeous.
Performed work
We engineered, produced and installed dfesigned parquet flooring and solid wood doors for the Palace of Independence. Taking into account the site's status special attention was paid to the design of parquet flooring and doors.
Total area of the installed parquet flooring was 3600 sqm (banquet halls, halls for special events, official meetings, talks, award ceremonies, press-centre, and other rooms).
Practically all parquet designs and patterns were created specifically for the Palace of Independence.
Parquet designs were created under the guidance of architects from "Minskproject". The architects thoroughly worked out the layout concept of all the rooms. Parquet compositions were designed taking into consideration furniture arrangement. Some halls performed several functions and furniture can be rearranged according to the necessities. And this peculiarity was worth paying attention to while creating design-projects. We had two main tasks. Firstly, the parquet flooring should harmoniously match the architecture of the whole building and at the same time it should be unique for every room. Secondly, parquet flooring should combine modern and traditional features of Belorussia. Due to the fact that the Palace was intended for international events it was supposed to use elements of western and oriental cultures in the interior. Classical style interiors are characterized by calm colours that is why we used oak, merbau, walnut, maple, ash and wenge in flooring.
We also produced and installed 260 doors. It is worth mentioning that 20 doors are more than 4 metres high. Luxurious wooden doors with carvings are decorated with gilt and patina.
