Borders
Worthy framing of the parquet masterpiece
Decorative borders are linear parquet decoration elements resembling a frame with inner and outer borderlines.
Decorative borders are crucial for parquet floorings—they are even used much more frequently than medallions or any other décor types. This is one of the most ancient and ubiquitous kinds of decorative flooring elements combining both esthetic and practical functions.
Decorative functions of borders:
-
borders make the parquet flooring composition appear complete;
-
they make the parquet pattern more diverse and complex;
-
parquet borders conduct a whole interior design ensemble, since they contain medallion motifs and other pattern elements;
-
they manage to combine different parts of the room stylistically;
-
decorative borders are a great addition to the interior design—they are perfect for highlighting the key design points (you can choose ethnic borders with national ornaments, modern flower ornaments, and more).
Practical functions of borders:
-
decorative borders serve as borderlines between different types of parquet laying or several wood species;
-
they distinguish different flooring types, for example parquet and ceramic granite;
-
provided correct installation, decorative borders are able to conceal any room defects, asymmetry, or irregular shape of walls and edges;
-
decorative borders divide the room into functional sectors;
-
broad decorative borders make the room appear smaller, and narrow borders, on the contrary, are used to broaden the space.
