Plane tree lives up to 2000 years and is considered symbol of wisdom, stability, safety and strength. Fragrance of plane wood is used during the production of toilet water: its fragrance can be found in Versace Man Eau Fraiche or in HERMES Un Jardin sur le Nil.

The main peculiarity of plane tree is a wide range of shades even within one log: from pink-grey to red-brown or even yellow. It inserts in the interior note of originality and aesthetic qualities.

Main disadvantages of plane tree are tendency to buckling and rot. Due to these facts the use of plane tree is limited to dry premises.

Limited supply of this wood species at the timber market makes it preferable to use plane tree as veneer. To get veneer not only trunk and big branches are used, but roots as well. Veneer from roots has rich texture of pleasant shades. The texture the most valued by masters is called "snakeskin".

Place of origin It includes 10 deciduous and evergreen species widespread in the northern hemisphere – Mediterranean, North America, Central Asia and Asia Minor, also South-western and Central Europe. Plane trees are found in the Crimea and the Caucasus.
Colour and structure Core is reddish-brown, usually it is distinguished from lighter sapwood. Medullar rays create unique speckled design at quartersawn cuts. Reddish-brown medullar rays contrast with lighter background that explains the name of plane wood of tangential cut – "lacewood". Texture is small or medium.
